Universally Designed Music Classrooms
A music classroom built on the principles of Universal Design uses activities that involve all students regardless of ability. In Universally Designed classrooms, students do not stick out because of their ability. This takes examining the multiple ways that students can express and make music in a music classroom.

Michelle (Shelley) Droe teaches grades K-6 at Lincoln Elementary in Cedar Falls. This marks her 27th year of teaching and has taught in Colorado, Florida, and Iowa. She was co-director of the Greeley Children’s Choir in Greeley, Colorado, has been a guest conductor in statewide honor festivals and will be this year’s Opus director for the 5th and 6th grade singers. Shelley graduated with a BA in Music Education from Augustana University and a masters in horn performance from the University of Northern Colorado. She completed 3 levels of Kodaly training and two levels of Orff. Shelley is a nationally certified teacher, and is currently the repertoire and standards chair for ICDA and a past president of the Kodaly Educators of Iowa. She was a finalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award in 2018.
