Creating an Inclusive Art Room
In this workshop participants are encouraged to make and take a project. Leaders and participants will have a collaborative discussion on accommodations that can be made for students. Spectrum Art directors will give insight to past, current, and future art projects made in rehearsals. Details on the curation of Spectrum Art Week and insight to the side projects that make Spectrum unique. All notes from the session will be inputted into a shareable google document.

Megan Wellik is student teaching this Spring as her final semester studying Art Education at the University of Northern Iowa. She is originally from Story City, IA. In her time at UNI, she has gained rich experiences as an On Site Supervisor for local schools through the YWCA, a Peer Mentor, an educator in various field experiences, and as a member of the Spectrum project for three years.

Rachel Kopriva is from Traer, Iowa. She is a senior at the University of Northern Iowa finishing up her degrees in Art Education and BFA in painting. During her time at UNI she has been very involved in many activities such as UNI Student Art Education Association, Painting Club, an educator at the Hearst Art Center, and has this is her second year with the UNI Spectrum Project. This year she is serving as an Art Director for the UNI Spectrum Project where she is responsible for the Spectrum Art Week exhibit, April 1-7, 2019. She enjoys working with children and is ready for another incredible semester with the Spectrum Project!

Taylor Hansen is from Adel, Iowa and is currently a junior at the University of Northern Iowa where she is studying Art Education as well as obtaining her bachelors in fine arts with an emphasis in performance art. Taylor is active in the art department at UNI by serving as a peer mentor and volunteering with the campus group, Art Can Help. She has been a part of Spectrum Project for three years and is excited to continue as it has been a magical experience for her so far. This year she is serving as a buddy in the project but in previous years served as director and assistant director.

Aliza Doherty is originally from St. Peter, Minnesota and is a junior at the University of Northern Iowa where she is studying Art Education. This is her second year with the Spectrum Project and absolutely LOVES it! This year she serves as Assistant Art Director for the program. Along with the Spectrum Project, she is also on the UNI club tennis team. Aliza currently works as a student coordinator for UNI catering. Aliza loves art and working with children of all abilities. The Spectrum Project gives her the opportunity to do both.

Danielle Anderson is a Junior LYHS Major with an emphasis in Nonprofit and Outdoor Recreation. She is planning on running mission trips after she graduates from UNI. Danielle is also Student Ambassador for the LYHS Program and is a member of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. She traveled to Orlando, FL this past December for the Alliance Management Institute to learn how to implement change and improve forward thinking in the Nonprofit sector. Danielle is serving her first time on the Spectrum Project staff this year, after two years of being a Buddy and could not be more excited to share her creative ideas!
